Obama’s Ft. Hood Speech Bullshit

In church/state, Culture Wars, editorial, POTUS, religion on November 11, 2009 at 7:30 pm

President Obama’s speech yesterday at the memorial for the victims of the Fort Hood massacre turned religious pretty quickly. Of course, I’m sure most atheists expected this, as religion’s infestation of American politics is famously complete. I listened (on the NPR) to the most of the memorial, and went unfazed at the staple religious regurgitations that are said every time we remember loved ones who have died. You know, usually in an event so tragic, so unfair, that any loving god would be compelled to intervene. The clichés mostly bounced off me (General Casey went as far to quote the Bible). However, one line grabbed my attention. It strikes back to a common complaint from New Atheists.

No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor – President Obama 11/10/09

Really, Mr. President? In reality, faith can be used to justify any action. Isn’t that is the whole idea? If you evoke faith you can claim, say, wishing brain cancer on someone, murdering your daughter, killing a doctor, torturing, genocide, and terrorism are all legitimate expressions thereof. In the Torah, Koran, and Bible, God orders the commission of, and facilitates terrible violence. The fact is, just the opposite of what President Obama said is true. I’d like to think (foolishly?), this probably isn’t lost on Obama, but he could never publically say so.

I was very annoyed with this nonsensical dribble. In America, it is a fact that a theist can say anything and go largely unchallenged out of ‘respect’. Though this may be slowly changing, we have a long way to go in our struggle against faith, and the taboos society places its scrutiny.

Below is Obama’s full speech, and a video of the murderer of Dr. Tiller claiming his barbarism is justified.

Two Things Theists Hate

Tonight, my beloved NOVA is airing the first in a three part series called “Becoming Human”.

Also, HBO’s documentary special “By The People: The Election of Barack Obama” is tonight.

Birthers believe everything they hear on Coast to Coast.

Via Huffington Post:

[…] According to their answers, birthers are less educated, watch more TV, and read fewer books than non-birthers.

Some 43 percent of them have never traveled outside of their home country. They’re 24 percent more likely to speak only a single language. They are 63% less likely to have ever owned a passport.

A third of them didn’t vote in the last presidential election. Forty-four percent of them believe that the Big Bang didn’t really happen and 47 percent don’t believe in global warming. Birthers are also 19 percent more likely to believe in UFOs and alien visits to earth and 50 percent more likely to believe in alien abductions. […]

I refuse to believe it; everyone knows that conspiracy theorists are the real heroes. This is just the mainstream media trying to keep the public from discovering what we enlightened already know. The President of the United States is an illegal Muslim immigrant, whose life goal is the complete destruction of western civilization.

If these people didn’t bring us the ‘facts’ that ‘they’ don’t want us to know, as a society we might continue to believe ridiculous hoaxes like the moon landing, evolution, and cosmology. Thankfully, they came forward, and relegated such ideas to the fringe.

It took the insight, bravery, and wisdom of a college student to expose 9/11 for what it was, a perfectly planned, executed, and covered up attack by the United States government on its people for reasons that aren’t quite clear (or at least agreed on). If only President Bush had used the same people responsible for 9/11 to plan the Iraq war, we would have been out of there in weeks instead of years. While it is true that so-called ‘experts’ and ‘scientists’ have debunked the Loose Change video countless times, but those ‘experts’ are just pawns in the grander conspiracy.

S.C. Should be Embarrassed, and not Just for Starting the Civil War

Rep. Wilson later apologized, then today suggested the apology wasn’t his idea. Could Mr. Wilson be any more indicative of modern conservatives?

I must say I feel a sense of pride that Democrats didn’t behave like children during the Bush years.

GOP Rep. Comes Clean on Opposition to Obama

GOP Looking for “Great White Hope”

Wow, didn’t I just call on the Republicans to come clean about their opposition to President Obama? It would appear I did! Time to quote myself, a faux pas I know.

To the American Right: Just be honest in your opposition. Stop insulting everyone’s intelligence. Thanks for reading.

I can only assume that U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) read my words yesterday, and decided to heed my advice.

(AP) TOPEKA, Kan. – U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins told a recent gathering in northeast Kansas that the Republican Party is looking for a “great white hope” to help stop the political agenda of the Democratic party and President Barack Obama.

Well I have to give her credit for being honest, but she did try to distance herself for those comments later. I wonder if this story will help or hurt Mrs. Jenkins in the midterm elections. It should be interesting to see.

Back to giving myself undue credit. I’m so cool. /pats self on the back
